Customising a web style sheet is on of those tasks that requires one to really plan ahead. A web style sheet seperates the content of the site from the presentation. When customising a web style sheet you control the colour, the fonts and the layout of your site.

The resulting presentation of your content must attract the customer to stay on your site, and not give him a headache.

Choosing colours for your website

Colour

Like children, adults too are attracted by colour. We all have our own likes and dislikes, but the rule of thumb when designing a site is to use no more that 3 colours. Colours should not clash nor be difficult to discern, for example using a pastel shade on a white background as a font. Colours should be harmonious and pleasing to the eye.

Choosing a colour palette for your site, and then if used consitently thougout your network, becomes your brand or trademark. Whether you choose 1 colour, 2, or 3 colours this of course is a personal choice.

Colour can be used effectively to emphasise or highlight a section on the site in order to draw attention. Colours can provoke certain feelings, being aware of which colours influence which feelings and emotions is important to any good web designer. Using the wrong colour can be detrimental to a website and the owners expectations.
